Search Engine Optimisation

For Small Businesses, Charities & Freelancers

Demystifying SEO once and for all

SEO is not a magic trick. It’s about adding value to the world and putting your customer at the centre of what you do.

Best SEO practices can bring traffic to your website for years.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO for short) is a term that’s often thrown around as if there’s some magic trick or special formula.

This is simply not true.

SEO is about answering questions, providing something of value that’s relevant to your industry and understanding your audience.

Yet, when you start looking for information on SEO, you’ll find lots of jargon about keywords and backlinks. Whilst these do remain important elements of your overall search engine strategy, there’s very little advice on search intent, building overall authority and technical best practices.

I focus on search engines because they give long-term results when compared to other forms of digital marketing, such as paid advertising or social media.

Most digital marketing feels like running on a treadmill, struggling to keep moving forward. SEO is different.  It is a long-term strategy for online success.

I can demystify  SEO, once and for all! So, if you have a blog, business or website and you want to improve its search engine performance, I can help!

I provide SEO services including…

Website SEO Audits

A detailed report with recommendations on how to improve your search engine performance.

On-Page & Off-Page SEO

Content improvements and upgrades, optimising existing pages and articles, calls to action, general page improvements, review and backlink monitoring.

Technical SEO

SEO Training & Coaching

Workshops, training and 1-2-1 support for bloggers, businesses and charities who want to improve their SEO knowledge or even earn extra income online.

Keyword & Competitor Analysis

Data Analysis

Making sense of the data provided by Google Analytics and Google Search Console into easily actionable goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve built a network of websites that earn decent income by targeting under-served keywords.

These websites earn advertising revenue and affiliate sales commission, which enabled me to start my own business.

SEO was and still is the only strategy I use for promoting these websites and my strategy has proven to be successful.

So, it’s natural that I get asked a lot of questions about SEO from hobbyists and other professionals on a daily basis.

Here’s a selection of the most common queries I hear!

Where are you based?

I mostly work from my home office in South Wales, or from co-working spaces across Caerphilly, Cardiff and Pontypridd. However, due to the nature of my work – I can work from anywhere!

How will we communicate and share information?

I can work and collaborate with you and your organisation in a variety of different ways.

I’m highly experienced with using modern communication and productivity tools including:

  • Microsoft Teams & Office 365 Business Tools
  • Slack
  • Skype & Google Hangouts
  • Dropbox, Google Drive & OneDrive
  • Trello
  • Email & WhatsApp
Will you build backlinks to my site?

Backlinks are only one piece of a much bigger puzzle. Yes, my SEO strategy includes backlinks, but it forms a small part of a larger overall strategy.

My SEO Action Plans cover your website’s content, page speed and many, many other things.

There are over 200 different ranking factors used by Google. Backlinks are just 1 of those factors.

Building backlinks using almost any method is not advised by Google as it’s seen as a form of manipulation.

It’s very important to consider who the backlink is from and in what context they’ll be linking to you. Only certain backlinks have positive implications for your search engine ranking, these are the ones which have the most relevance and are the most natural.

Many SEO practitioners still use bad practice to build links, known as black-hat SEO

This is why backlinks are a contentious topic for SEO practitioners. Historically, they were a very important part of SEO and they remain important to this day. However, backlinks can be as equally damaging as they are helpful.

Can SEO help my local business get more visitors?

Absolutely yes! SEO is an excellent organic marketing technique for small and local buisnesses.

Neighbourhood-level and even street-level Google searches are increasing, so it really is time for local businesses to make the most of this free traffic that Google sends you!

Can you help me recover from a Google penalty?

Yes, I am experienced in helping websites recover from manual penalties in Google Search Results.

This often happens when businesses have hired unscrupulous marketing agencies who engaged in bad link-building practices on their behalf. Unbeknownst the to customer, this actually damages their online reputation.

Sometimes, websites are penalised by Google for duplicate content without realising their out-of-date CMS is generating multiple pages of the same content.

Can you imagine how it feels when you don’t appear in the first 100 pages for an exact match brand name search? It’s absolutely heartbreaking for business owners when customers can no longer find them on Google, I truly undersand how this feels.

I can take swift action to help you recover your search engine presence after a manual penalty from Google. However, please be aware that this is a long-term strategy and not an overnight fix.

What does [x] mean in Google Analytics?

Have you Googled it?

In all seriousness, Google Analytics is a huge learning curve for beginners. 1-2-1 support could really benefit you if you’re a total newbie. I run sessions in person or over Skype.

Prices start at £50 per hour for 1-2-1 tuition and coaching.

What's the timescale for an SEO Audit?

Turnaround time is approximately 1-2 weeks depending on the size and scale of your website and overall digital presence.

What SEO tools and reporting do you use?
